Dr. Nicholaus Kessy

Dr. Nicholaus Kessy is a head of Economics Department at the Bank of Tanzania – Mbeya Branch, where he is responsible for monitoring economic developments focusing on inflation and price developments and offering economic policy advice to the six regions in the Southern Highland Zone (Iringa, Njombe, Mbeya, Songwe, Rukwa and Katavi). He oversees the supervision of Microfinance Service Providers (Tier 2) and facilitate the process of licensing of the MSPs.

Dr. Kessy is an economist – a Central Banker and facilitator in the delivery on various central banking tasks including monetary policy formulation and implementation, setting expenditure ceilings as part and parcel of adviser to the government on government budgetary operations, coordination of various regional integration initiatives of the Bank with regional integration groupings, monitoring of the real sector activities of the economy and microfinance activities in six regions in Southern Highland Zone. He also monitors cross border trade between Tanzania and Malawi and was one of the facilitators of the 2019 Memorandum of Understanding between the Bank of Tanzania and Bank of Zambia on Currency Convertibility and Repatriation.

Dr. Kessy has worked at the Institute of Finance Management (IFM) as a lecturer and at the Bank of Tanzania as an economist in different exposures within the Bank. He holds bachelor’s degree in economics, master’s degree in economics & Ph.D. in Economics.
